Bcomp's recycled fiber reinforcement is used to regenerate the interior panel of the plastic demonstration car XC60 to overcome the degradation properties of recycled plastics.

Bcomp Ltd. (Fribourg, Switzerland) is a company specializing in lightweight, high-performance composite applications for natural fibers. On June 19th, it announced a partnership with Volvo Cars (Göteborg, Sweden).
With Volvo Cars releasing the Recycled Plastics Demonstration Vehicle XC60, Bcomp's powerRibs natural fiber reinforcement technology is combined with marine plastics. The resulting composite material can use marine plastic in semi-structured automotive interior components while reducing weight by 50% compared to standard components.
Plastic waste in the ocean is a major environmental hazard. However, the degraded nature of recycled marine plastics only allows for limited applications in the automotive industry. Bcomp's powerRibs reinforcement technology made from flax fiber is used to enhance the performance of marine plastics, allowing them to be used in semi-structured internal parts.
Volvo Cars announced that at least 25% of the new Volvo cars will be made from recycled materials since 2025, and the specially manufactured XC60 T8 will be launched during the Volvo Ocean Race Ocean Summit to showcase new and more sustainable technologies. Stay in Gothenburg, Sweden.
