Bay Ship and Yacht Co. has been awarded a contract to build a Water-Go-Round hydrogen fuel cell passenger ship by Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine.

Bay Ship and Yacht Co. (Alameda, CA) won a contract to build the first hydrogen fuel cell passenger ship for the Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine (GGZEM, Alameda, CA, US) in the United States. The vessel is expected to be delivered and put into use in September 2019.
Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine received $3 million from the California Air Resources Board (CARB, Sacramento, CA, US) to build the vessel. The zero-emission ship will become the first such ship in the United States.
The ship, called Water-Go-Round, is powered by a dual 300 kW electric motor using BAE Systems' independent electric drivetrain in Farnborough, England. Power is generated by a 360 kW Hydrogenics (Mississauga, Canada) proton exchange membrane fuel cell and lithium ion battery. Hydrogen tanks from Hexagon Composites (Alesund, Norway) with valves and hardware from OMB-Saleri (Brescia, Italy), installed on the upper deck and containing enough hydrogen for two days between refueling.
