Biodegradable LGF50 PLA Plastic

LGF50 PLA is a high-performance long-fiber composite material based on PLA (Polylactic Acid, poly(lactic acid)) and reinforced with 50% Long Glass Fiber. It combines the biobased nature of PLA with the structural reinforcing capability of long glass fibers, enabling traditional PLA to expand from a material primarily used for lightweighting, sustainability, and appearance applications to high-strength, load-bearing, and structural injection molding components.

What Makes LGF50 PLA Different?

The advantages of ordinary PLA lie in its polymer platform derived from renewable resources and its excellent processing and molding capabilities. However, pure PLA itself has obvious material limitations. LGF50 PLA is specifically designed to address these limitations.

PLA Matrix

Provide a biopolymer platform, with lower density and good injection molding processing characteristics.

50% Long Glass Fiber

It assumes the main role in providing stiffness and structural reinforcement, while also improving resistance to creep, dimensional stability, and deformation control under long-term loads.

Long-Fiber Architecture

Unlike short glass fibers, longer fibers can retain a longer reinforcing path after molding, forming a more effective load-bearing network within the material.

Why Choose LGF50 PLA?

  • If the conventional PLA is no longer capable of meeting the required stiffness, load-bearing capacity and dimensional stability of the product

  • If the SGF PLA can meet the basic strength requirements, but still has deficiencies in long-term bearing capacity, impact resistance, fatigue resistance or dimensional stability

  • A high proportion of glass fiber reinforcement can significantly enhance the stiffness of the material, allowing designers to re-optimize the wall thickness and reinforcement design while meeting structural requirements, thereby exploring lightweighting solutions.

LGF PLA is not intended to make PLA "slightly stronger", but rather to enable PLA to enter structural applications that have traditionally relied more on reinforced engineering plastics.

FAQ

Q: What are the main advantages of LGF50 PLA?

A: The core advantages are:

50% long glass fiber reinforcement, high structural stiffness, high strength, improved impact resistance, improved creep resistance, excellent dimensional stability, lightweight structural potential and a PLA-based material platform.

Q: Is LGF50 PLA biodegradable?

A: PLA itself is a bio-based polymer, but the presence of 50% glass fiber means the finished composite should not automatically be described as fully biodegradable or compostable. Any biodegradability or compostability claim should be based on the specific formulation and applicable certification.

Q: Can LGF50 PLA be injection molded?

A: Yes. LGF50 PLA is intended for injection-molded applications. Processing conditions should be optimized according to the specific PLA grade, fiber retention requirements, part geometry and mold design.

How to contact us?

LGF50 PLA does not merely aim to "completely replace PA, PBT or PPS". Its true value lies in offering a distinct material combination: structural performance + lightweight + PLA matrix + long glass fiber reinforcement.

LGF50 PLA can become a worthy alternative option to be evaluated. If you are also interested in this kind of material, please feel free to join us for a discussion.
