Pyrolysis is a method of decomposing a resin in a composite material into small organic molecules by high temperature to recover carbon fibers, and is classified into a thermal cracking, a fluidized bed, a vacuum cracking, and a microwave cracking method depending on the reaction atmosphere, the reactor, and the heating method. The thermal cracking method does not use chemical reagents and is easy to be industrially amplified. It is also the only method in the world to realize the commercial operation of CFRP recycling. The fluidized bed method refers to introducing oxygen or air into a fluidized bed reactor, and the reaction temperature is controlled at 450 to 550 ° C to decompose the resin, and the obtained recycled carbon fiber flows under the action of a cyclone and is separated from the metal, and the gas generated by the decomposition of the resin It is replenished as fuel to supplement the energy consumed during the operation of the fluidized bed. The Pickering team at the University of Nottingham in the UK has done a great deal of work in recycling waste fiber composites in fluidized bed reactors. The temperature in the fluidized bed reactor is more uniform and more controllable than thermal cracking. It can treat waste CFRP with more pollutants, and the recovered fiber surface has no carbon residue, but the fiber length and mechanical properties are seriously lost.
