PP material

Long glass fiber reinforced PP particle morphology

It is generally cylindrical particles with a length of 12 mm or 25 mm and a diameter of about 3 mm. Among them, pellets with a length of about 12 mm are mainly used for injection molding, and pellets with a length of about 25 mm are mainly used for compression molding. In this kind of particle, the glass fiber has the same length as the particle, and the content of the glass fiber can range from 20% to 70%. The color of the particle can be matched according to the customer's requirement.

Why Ford uses long glass fiber reinforced PP rather than short glass fiber reinforced PP?

In order for the glass fiber to function well in plastics to increase strength, it is necessary to make the glass fiber length greater than its critical length Lo. Relevant data shows that when the fiber-reinforced plastic with a fiber length less than this critical length is subjected to a certain load, the fiber is pulled out and the strength of the fiber cannot be fully exerted. The critical length Lo is related to the specific plastic type. For glass fiber reinforced polypropylene, the Lo is 3.1 mm.

This shows that the failure mode is mainly because the fibers are pulled out and cannot meet the strength requirements of the module carrier material. Therefore, the development and application of long fiberglass-reinforced polypropylene and its injection molding technology require the preparation of a polypropylene fiber material with a reinforced glass fiber length of about 10 mm, and an improved injection molding process to ensure that the glass fiber length in the product is 3.1 mm. the above.
