The Teijin Group's Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) plans to build a production line of sheet molding compounds (SMC) at its plant in Pran, France, to meet its demand in the European market. Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) will invest approximately 5.1 million euros ($6 million) in this SMC production line.

The French plant of Continental Structural Plastics will be the focus of the development of low VOC materials and SMC materials in Europe.
Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) is currently the largest manufacturer of sheet molding compound (SMC) in North America, with an annual production of more than 84,000 tons of SMC. The SMC production line established in France will further promote the company's development of a large number of patented and advanced composite materials, including low volatile organic compound (VOC) materials that are being developed in response to European market standards. The raw materials required for the production of SMC in this production line are mainly glass fiber and carbon fiber.
Philippe Bonte, President of Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) Europe, said: “The opening of an SMC line at Prent is an important step in our strategy to expand our European market, as this ensures that we are able to provide a full range of services to our European customers. At the same time, it also provides us with a great opportunity to further strengthen the research and development of materials in Europe."
The lightweight, sturdy and high-performance materials developed by Teijin Group and the composite synthesis technology they possess are regarded as the focus of the Group's medium-term strategic transformation. On this basis, the company also plans to expand its business with the aim of becoming a supplier of various material components.
The CSP Plons line is both an innovative factory and a rapidly growing lightweight technology center that includes carbon fiber resin transfer molding (RTM), Class A carbon fiber resin transfer molding and thermoplastic composite production. CSP purchased 12,000 square meters (130,000 square feet) of facility facilities as early as 2013.
