Safran invested approximately 48 million euros in this 8,000-square-meter facility to produce low-pressure turbine blades for LEAP turbofan engines for CFM International, a 50/50 joint venture between GEM and Safran Aircraft Engines.
Safran CEO Philippe Petitcolin held a ceremony today at the Polish CEO Philippe Petitcolin, Deputy Minister of Investment and Development of Poland Adam Hamryszczak, Polish French Ambassador to China Pierre Levy and Safran Aircraft Engine CEO Olivier Andriès attended the ceremony.
The Safran Group invested approximately 48 million euros in this new 8,000-square-meter (86,400-square-foot) facility, equipped with machinery and equipment to keep up with high productivity targets. The plant is located in Sędziszów Małopolski in southeastern Poland, in the centre of the Aviation Valley of the country's aviation professional centre. It has more than 200 employees and nearly 150 operators have received comprehensive training in precision machinery. The new plant delivered the first parts in July 2017 and set a target for producing 180,000 low-pressure turbine blades this year, increasing to 350,000 in 2019 and 800,000 by 2022.
Safran's investment in the new plant once again reflects its determination to develop top-notch industrial capabilities to support the unprecedented growth of the LEAP engine. CFM International plans to deliver 1,100 engines this year and then start at 2,000 units a year from around 2020.
Philippe Petitcolin, CEO of Safran Group, said: “I am very happy to open a new factory in Poland, which will further strengthen our industrial bonds with the country for more than fifteen years.” “Polish aviation industry calls for a highly skilled workforce to support it. Strong growth and making it a major player in Europe. Safran has created many jobs by actively participating in various professional training programs and promoting this growth through substantial local investment."
Safran established its first factory in Poland in Safran Transmission Systems, Poland in 2001. Over the years, Safran has invested more than 180 million euros in its industrial facilities and currently has more than 1,000 local employees, making it the third largest employer in the Aviation Valley.
To date, LEAP has more than 15,000 orders and commitments and is the fastest-selling engine in aviation history. CFM International's new generation turbofan engine has been successfully put into use because it exceeded 1 million flight hours in less than two years after the start of commercial service. More than 350 aircraft powered by LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines have been deployed by more than 50 operators around the world.
