Boeing released images of the first two Boeing 777X test aircraft on its final assembly line at its factory in Everett, Washington. According to Aviation International News (AIN), engineers have installed the first fuselage barrel for the first two Boeing 777s. -9s, the main variant of GE's GE9X drive series.
The company expects to complete the static test fuselage by the end of the year and has moved the larger of the two 777X models to the installation and system installation. At the same time, at the company's Composite Wing Center (CWC), it has begun manufacturing wings for the fifth aircraft. So far, Boeing has sent four sets of wings from CWC and entered the spar assembly.
The company has now completed 98% of engineering releases, as well as Everett's static test bench, which is now loading all test equipment, and the fatigue test rig has reached the midpoint of construction. The aircraft's folded composite wingtips also arrived from their production base in St. Louis to the static aircraft and the first flight test item. According to AIN, Boeing has also begun construction of a second autoclave, which is scheduled to enter CWC later this year.
Boeing's composite wing center will support the longest wing production produced by Boeing. The 777X features a lightweight wing design based on composite spars, made from more than 400 miles of ribbon, and cured in a special autoclave.
So far, Boeing is still targeting the 777X's first flight in 2019 in 2019, and plans to launch its first aircraft in 2020 to launch the customer Emirates.
