Golden Gate Zero Emissions Ocean (GGZEM) received a $3 million grant from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to build the first hydrogen fuel cell vessel in the United States with the support of the California Climate Investment (CCI) program. status. The zero-emission ship will be the first such ship in the United States and will highlight the advantages of hydrogen fuel cells in commercial shipping. The 70-foot hybrid hydrogen fuel cell catamaran "water flow" has a maximum speed of 22 knots and is powered by dual motors, fuel cells and battery packs. Hexagon Composites' hydrogen tanks contain enough hydrogen to operate the vessel between refueling for two days.

After the ship is launched in mid-2019, it will operate in the San Francisco Bay in the first three months.
