OceanGate (Everett, WA, USA) announced on June 27 that it successfully conducted an unmanned dive test on the manned submersible Titan (Titan), verifying that the hull dive to a depth of 4,000 meters (13,123 feet). . The Titan is one of only five manned submersibles in the world that can reach this depth and is the only privately owned submersible.

Designed and manufactured by OceanGate, the Titan is made up of carbon fiber and titanium alloy and is the world's largest submersible of the same type. The team plans to investigate the wreckage of the famous British Titanic in June 2019.

As part of the Titan underwater testing program, the OceanGate team conducted a series of driverless diving tests. Gradually reduce the submersible to 4000 meters while using another strain gauge, viewport displacement sensor and custom designed acoustic sensor system to measure the health of the hull, providing analysis data during the submersible dive and between the two processes. . Many of these sensors will be permanently stored in the submersible's auxiliary device and will give the driver real-time feedback on the hull behavior of all future manned submersibles.

After the cable test, OceanGate's CEO and chief driver, Stockton Rush, will carry the manned test on the submersible alone until the dive depth reaches 4,000 meters.

“There is still a lot to explore about the ocean,” Rush commented. “Through Titan, we can now let people see more than half of the world’s oceans. This is the lifeline of our planet, and I believe that the future of mankind is below ground level, and Not in space."

OceanGate's Titan manned submersible will participate in a project called Titanic Survey Expedition for a period of six weeks to digitally record and preserve historical shipwreck sites. The collected data will be used to create a three-dimensional virtual model of the debris that will be used to assess the environmental impact of hundreds of thousands of other shipwrecks around the world.
