Automotive lightweighting has become the focus of today's new car development. To achieve the goal of lightweighting, in addition to optimizing the structure and process design, most of them focus on the selection of materials.


Generally, the specific gravity of plastics is 0.9~1.6, and the proportion of glass fiber reinforced composites is mostly within 2.0. The specific gravity of steel is 7.6, the specific gravity of copper is 8.4, and the specific gravity of aluminum is 2.7. These metal materials have a much larger specific gravity than plastics. Therefore, plastics have the best weight reduction effect and are the preferred material for lightweight vehicles. The use of plastic can reduce the weight of parts by about 40%, and the power, comfort and safety of the car can be improved.


Some well-known car brands have now used high-performance engineering plastics and plastic composites on a large scale. Future car doors, roofs, seat components, and structural components around the car. The body made of fiber reinforced composite material can reduce weight by 35% compared with the steel body.


At present, automotive parts and components are the first field of long glass fiber reinforced materials applications, accounting for more than 80% of LFT production, and continue to increase. In hybrid and electric vehicle components, engine compartments and other structural materials, LFT materials can be used to create highly integrated components, reducing weight and cost. When used as the engine peripheral material, LFT material can achieve high mechanical performance retention under long-term heat-resistant conditions; as a vehicle interior material, it has low VOC and low emission characteristics.
