Toho Tenax Co. Ltd., a core company in the carbon fiber and composites business of Teijin Group, announced the development of a new high-strength, high-impact prepreg produced by Toho Texex. Aviation grade carbon fiber is made with special carbon nanotubes. The prepreg is a carbon fiber sheet pre-impregnated with a matrix resin and is an intermediate material for producing a carbon fiber reinforced composite material (CFRP).
The combination of carbon fiber and carbon nanotubes further enhances the tensile strength and impact resistance of the carbon fiber composite. At the same time, since the carbon nanotubes are uniformly distributed on the interface between the carbon fiber and the resin, the difficulty of peeling off the fiber and the resin is increased, thereby effectively extending the service life.
