Tasmanian Small Penguin Penguin Composites is joining an existing DMTC project to explore the potential
use of hybrid composites in defense manufacturing.
The Minister of Defense Industry, Christopher Pine, announced the news on July 20.
“Partnerships will explore the development of new compounds with unique characteristics, for example, to improve the performance of military vehicles and reduce manufacturing costs,” said Minister Pyne.
The project is part of the DMTC's Support Technology Program, which aims to strengthen platform-independent technologies for the supply chain, including land, maritime, aerospace and aerospace.
“The DMTC is providing cooperation and focusing on the innovations envisaged in the 2016 Defense Industry Policy Statement, in which case the potential of new material compounds is explored,” the Minister said.
Penguin Composites joins existing industry partners Thales Australia, Imagine Intelligent Materials and research partners at the University of Queensland, Swinburne University of Technology, Deakin University and RMIT.
“The participation of researchers and industry partners will enable teams to test new configurations and identify performance differences compared to traditional materials,” said Minister Pyne.
“With a deeper understanding, teams can turn their attention to maximizing efficiency challenges and developing cost-effective manufacturing solutions for these innovative materials systems.”
