Ford used recycled carbon fiber reinforced polypropylene PP composites in the 2018 Explorer Sport Utility Vehicle SUV for the rigid part of the A-pillar bracket, replacing the original ASA material. The newly adopted chopped recycled carbon fiber reinforced PP material PP/CF can be molded directly with existing molds and has good compatibility with thermoplastic elastomers. Recycled carbon fiber is recovered from composite waste from aircraft, bicycles and other sources.
