Wide range of applications in carbon fiber
Carbon fiber is an important strategic material for the development of national defense industry and national economy. It is widely used in wind power blades, aerospace, sporting goods, automobile industry, mixed molding, pressure vessels, building reinforcement, electronic appliances and other fields. In 2017, wind power blades are still the first major application area of carbon fiber, and its consumption accounts for 23.5% of total carbon fiber demand. Aerospace is the second largest application area of carbon fiber except wind turbine blades, and its consumption accounts for 22.8% of total carbon fiber. The consumption of sports and leisure, automobile industry, mixed molding, pressure vessel and building reinforcement accounted for 15.7%, 11.6%, 8.2%, 6.7% and 3.8% of the total demand for carbon fiber, respectively.
Demand for wind power blades continues to pick up
With the continuous reduction of underground mining energy and the increasing seriousness of air pollution, the development and utilization of clean and sustainable energy has gradually attracted attention from the country's attention to wind power projects with little impact on the environment. Wind turbines are a very critical component in wind power generation. Large wind power equipment has strict requirements on the strength, weight and structure of the blades. Traditional materials are difficult to meet the requirements. Carbon fiber, which has excellent performance, enters the industry. Carbon fiber is three times more rigid than glass fiber, and the carbon fiber products produced are much better than FRP. In addition, its weight advantage is also very obvious, lighter blades can reduce the cost of wind power, improve the quality of the blades and the overall performance of the entire power generation equipment.
The demand for carbon fiber in global wind turbine blades fell sharply in 2013, mainly due to the decline in international new installed capacity in 2013. Since 2014, the demand for carbon fiber in global wind turbine blades has continued to pick up. In 2015, strong growth was resumed. In 2017, the demand for carbon fiber reached 19,800 tons, an increase of 10.0%.
Aerospace applications have broad prospects
Carbon fiber is the main material for aerospace multi-components and is widely used in fuselage, engines, turbines and other parts. In the aerospace field, the application of carbon fiber materials is more extensive, and carbon fiber appears in the launching cylinders such as missiles and rockets, as well as in engines and heat-proof layers. The quality of the spacecraft has been greatly reduced and the transportation capacity of the spacecraft has been improved. Since 2011, the demand for carbon fiber in the global aerospace industry has been increasing; in 2017, the global demand for aerospace carbon fiber was 19,200 tons, an increase of 9.1%; it is expected that by 2023, the demand for carbon fiber in the global aerospace industry is expected. More than 30,000 tons, aerospace carbon fiber applications have broad prospects.
Sports and leisure needs to grow
At present, the sports field is the third largest consumer segment of carbon fiber in the world. In recent years, the global sports sector consumes more than 7,000 tons of carbon fiber per year. From 2014 to 2017, the demand for carbon fiber in the sports sector has maintained an average annual growth rate of 24.6%. speed. The application of carbon fiber in the field of sports and leisure mainly focuses on golf clubs, fishing rods, bicycles, rackets, ski poles and other sporting goods. Compared to traditional metal materials, carbon fiber materials can reduce weight by up to 50%.
Consumption in the automotive sector continues to increase
In the automotive field, with the increasing demand for automobiles, the lightweight and safety of automobiles and the efficiency of engine efficiency have become one of the main reference factors for contemporary automobile consumption. Carbon fiber materials have become ideal structural materials. At present, carbon fiber is widely used in many parts such as push rods, connecting rods and drive shafts of automobile engines, and also has many applications in automobile accelerators, chassis suspensions, and door parts. For the whole year of 2017, the global automotive industry's demand for carbon fiber materials reached 0.98 million tons.
