LFT-G® PA66 LGF40-UV | The Weatherable High-Strength PA66 GF40

LFT-G® 40% Long glass fiber PA66 (UV Resistant)

Standard PA66 GF40 is a structural beast, but it has a fatal enemy: Sunlight. UV radiation attacks the polyamide molecular chain, causing "chalking," discoloration, and a rapid loss of mechanical strength. LFT-G® PA66-LGF40V (UV Grade) is engineered to survive the elements.

This specialized Natural Grade (NG04-UV) incorporates a robust UV Stabilization Package (HALS) into the 40% Long Glass Fiber reinforced PA66 matrix. Unlike standard nylons that become brittle outdoors, this material maintains its flexural modulus (>13 GPa) and impact strength even after prolonged exposure to UV rays and rain. It allows for colorable, high-strength parts in exterior automotive and outdoor industrial applications.

  • √ UV & Weather Resistance: Specifically formulated to resist photo-oxidation (UV degradation), preventing surface cracking and maintaining color stability (Delta E).
  • √ Retained Outdoor Strength: While standard PA66 loses 50% of its strength outdoors, LGF40V retains its load-bearing capacity for years.
  • √ Structural Rigidity: The 40% long fiber skeleton provides the stiffness of metal, ensuring parts like roof racks and mirror bases don't warp in the summer sun.

Processing Information

The following values are recommendations. We recommend desiccant / dry air dryers (moisture content below 0.1%).

To minimize fiber breakage and ensure optimal performance, a low-compression, general-purpose screw is highly recommended.

Parameter Recommendation
Drying Temperature 80 - 100 °C
Drying Time 4 - 6 hours
Melt Temperature (Nozzle ③) 270 - 300 °C
Mold Temperature (Zone ②) 70 - 110 °C
Back Pressure Low (to minimize fiber damage)

Case Study: Automotive Roof Rack Base

Black automotive roof rack base made from UV resistant LFT PA66

Supports heavy roof loads (up to 75kg) while being exposed to direct sunlight, rain, and road salts for 10+ years.

3000h Xenon Arc Test

Competitor PA66 GF40 (Non-UV):
Severe surface chalking (whitening). Tensile strength dropped by 45% due to surface micro-cracking.
LFT-G® LGF40-UV:
  • Appearance: No chalking, color change (Delta E) < 3.0.
  • Strength: Retained 95% of original stiffness.
  • Result: Passed OEM exterior weathering specifications.

All-Weather Protection Applications

🚗

Side Mirror Bases

Must be rigid to prevent mirror vibration and resistant to UV fading. LFT PA66 replaces die-cast zinc, saving weight and cost.

🚁

Industrial Drone Frames

Operates outdoors. The material provides the stiffness for flight stability and resists degradation from sunlight exposure during missions.

🎿

Ski Bindings

Exposed to intense high-altitude UV and freezing cold. LFT-G® PA66-LGF40V maintains toughness and color in the harshest winter conditions.

People Also Ask (Google PAA)

1. Is Nylon 66 UV resistant?

A: By itself, no. Natural Nylon 66 will yellow and become brittle after extended exposure to sunlight due to photo-oxidation. To be used outdoors, it must be compounded with UV stabilizers (like HALS or Carbon Black). LFT-G® PA66-LGF40V is pre-compounded with these stabilizers, making it ready for long-term outdoor use.

2. What happens to Nylon in sunlight?

A: Sunlight (UV radiation) attacks the amide bonds in the polymer chain, causing them to break (scission). Visually, this looks like "chalking" or surface whitening. Mechanically, it leads to a drastic loss of tensile strength and impact resistance, causing parts to crack under load. Our UV Grade prevents this chemical breakdown.

3. Can you paint PA66 GF40?

A: Yes, PA66 GF40 can be painted, which also helps with UV protection. However, many manufacturers prefer to use a UV-stabilized resin (like LFT-G® LGF40V) to mold parts in the final color (usually black) directly. This eliminates the cost and environmental impact of the painting process while ensuring consistent protection throughout the part thickness.
