LFT, also known as long fiber reinforced composites, is a composite material formed by the injection molding process that blends the matrix resin with the fibers. Fibers are structural components of long fiber composites. The longer the fiber, the more effectively the polymer "seizes" and transmits the stress to the fiber. Long fibers are characterized by the continuous fiber filaments running over the length of the entire pellet such that these materials have both strength, stiffness and impact resistance improvements over a wide temperature range. Long fiber thermoplastic (LFT) composites fill the cost-effective gap between short fiber thermoplastic (SFT) materials and advanced composites while still being processed through efficient injection molding. LFT composites are therefore widely accepted as a viable alternative to traditional reinforced thermoplastics and metals for a variety of applications.

LFT has better performance than SFT products and due to its high strength-weight ratio and cost-effectiveness, metal is not an ideal choice. LFT composites have become rapidly accepted as viable alternatives to die-castings, metal components and conventional plastic materials in a wide range of markets including industrial equipment, automotive, consumer products, sports and leisure, and information technology.
