What is carbon fiber nylon6: long carbon fiber nylon6 composite.

A carbon fiber nylon 6 composite is a high-performance engineering thermoplastic created by reinforcing a Polyamide 6 (PA6) matrix with carbon fibers (CF). The PA6 resin itself offers a great all-around balance of strength, toughness, and wear resistance, making it a versatile engineering polymer. When infused with carbon fibers-which are renowned for their extreme stiffness, high tensile strength, and exceptionally low density-the resulting composite achieves a level of performance far exceeding that of unreinforced or even glass-filled plastics. This synergy makes carbon fiber nylon 6 a material of choice for lightweight, high-strength structural components.

However, the ultimate capability of this composite is dictated by the length of the carbon fibers. LFT-G® PA6 CF40 represents the apex of this technology, utilizing Long Carbon Fiber Technology (LFT). Unlike conventional Short Carbon Fiber (SCF) composites, the "long fiber" in LFT-G® PA6 CF40 (a 40% long carbon fiber nylon 6) forms an integral, interlocking 3D skeletal network within the PA6 matrix. This LCF structure is paramount for maximizing mechanical properties, delivering vastly superior impact strength, exceptional fatigue endurance, and metal-like stiffness at a fraction of the density. This positions LFT-G® PA6 CF40 as a premier choice for replacing metals like aluminum, magnesium, and even steel in the most demanding applications.

Core Advantages of Carbon fiber Nylon6

LFT-G® PA6 CF40 is engineered as a transformative metal replacement solution. The key to its superior performance lies in the 40% long carbon fibers that form an interconnected, skeletal network within the robust Polyamide 6 matrix. This structure is fundamentally better at dissipating energy and distributing stress compared to the random dispersion of short fibers. For your applications, this unlocks the following core advantages:

  • Exceptional Specific Strength (Strength-to-Weight Ratio)
  • Extreme Stiffness & Rigidity for Precision Parts
  • Significant Lightweighting for Viable Metal Replacement
  • Superior Long-Term Fatigue & Creep Resistance
  • Outstanding Dimensional Stability with Very Low CTE
  • Good High-Temperature Structural Performance
  • Customizable Electrical & Thermal Conductivity
  • Excellent Wear & Abrasion Resistance of PA6 Matrix
  • High Impact Strength due to LCF Structure

What is carbon fiber nylon6 used for?

The extreme performance profile of LFT-G® PA6 CF40 makes it a critical enabling material for applications where lightweight strength, high stiffness, and long-term durability are non-negotiable.

Automotive Engine Part

In the automotive industry, LFT-G® PA6 CF40 is specified for high-stress structural and under-the-hood applications. Specific parts include: lightweight intake manifolds; thermally stable engine covers and timing belt covers; robust cooling system components like fan shrouds and thermostat housings that resist glycol; high-strength structural brackets and mounts; and durable gear shifter housings and pedal boxes where stiffness and wear resistance are crucial. Its ability to replace metal reduces vehicle weight and dampens vibrations for improved NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness).

High-performance carbon fiber UAV Propeller parts made from LFT-G® PA6 CF40

UAV Propeller Part

For aerospace and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) industries, LFT-G® PA6 CF40 provides unparalleled performance for lightweight structural components. It is the ideal material for high-performance drone propellers, which must be extremely stiff to maintain their aerodynamic profile at high rotational speeds for maximum efficiency and thrust. Beyond propellers, it is used for entire UAV airframes, including structural arms, the main body chassis, and landing gear struts. In robotics, it is used for lightweight but rigid end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) and robotic arms where low inertia and high precision are critical.

Carbon Fiber Bicycle Part

The high stiffness-to-weight ratio of LFT-G® PA6 CF40 makes it highly sought after in high-performance sporting goods. It is used to manufacture lightweight and responsive bicycle frames, seat posts, handlebars, and crank arms, where maximum power transfer and minimal weight are desired. Other applications include durable and impact-resistant ski bindings, lightweight components for high-end fishing reels, shafts for hockey sticks, and protective gear where a combination of strength, toughness, and low weight is essential for athlete performance and safety.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can PA6-CF get wet?

A: Yes. Polyamide 6 (PA6) is a hygroscopic material, meaning it will absorb moisture from the atmosphere. This absorption causes slight dimensional changes and alters mechanical properties (typically increasing toughness while slightly decreasing stiffness and strength). For applications with tight dimensional tolerances or those operating in very humid environments, this must be considered during the design phase. For applications requiring lower moisture absorption, LFT-G® also offers PA12 LCF composites.

Q: How long does it take for PA6-CF to dry?

A: Proper drying is crucial before processing any PA6 composite to prevent material degradation. For LFT-G® PA6 CF40, a typical drying recommendation is 4 to 6 hours at 80-100°C (176-212°F) in a desiccant or vacuum dryer. The goal is to reduce the moisture content to below 0.1% before injection molding. Actual time can vary based on initial moisture level and dryer efficiency.

Q: How about your package?

A: Our standard packaging for materials like LFT-G® PA6 CF40 is a 25kg, multi-layer, moisture-proof bag with an aluminum foil liner to protect the pellets during transport and storage. These bags are then palletized and securely stretch-wrapped for shipment. For larger volume requirements, we can also arrange for bulk packaging solutions such as octabins or super sacks. Please contact our sales team to discuss your specific packaging needs.
