The explanation for the flame retardant principle may be very esoteric, but the purpose we want to achieve is very simple, that is, to prevent combustion or to interfere with delayed combustion. Next, we briefly introduce the actual performance of the flame retardant principle:
1.Reduce the temperature of the combustion body: The flame retardant can delay the thermal decomposition temperature of the plastic, and reduce the temperature by using the heat of vaporization of the non-flammable gas generated during the thermal decomposition of the flame retardant.
2.Decomposing the flame retardant by heating to release a flame retardant that captures H (hydroxyl) radicals in the combustion reaction, thereby terminating the chain reaction in the combustion process according to the chain reaction of the radical.
3.Under the action of heat, the flame retardant undergoes an endothermic phase change, prevents the temperature of the condensed phase from rising, and slows down the combustion reaction until it stops.
4.Thermal decomposition of the catalyzed condensed phase produces a solid product (coking layer) or foam layer that hinders heat transfer. This keeps the temperature of the condensed phase at a low level, resulting in a decrease in the rate of formation of the raw material (decomposition product of flammable gas) for the gas phase reaction.
In general, flame retardants are added to reduce the risk of fire, which is very important for life safety or to reduce property damage.
