The battery box is a highly customized component of electric vehicles and is the heaviest component of the Battery Pack in terms of mass besides the cells, and is available in T-shaped, earth-shaped, square, etc. Different shapes and sizes are generally placed on the mounting bracket under the floor of the vehicle. The battery box is divided into two parts: the upper cover and the lower box, which are connected by bolts or other connections and separated by a gasket to achieve IP67 waterproofing.

The top cover of the battery case is located above the Battery Pack and does not bear side and bottom impacts, nor does it support the mass of the entire battery pack, but only acts as a seal. It seals the battery module in the whole Pack case to achieve IP67 or other standard sealing effect.

The upper cover of the battery box is pre-punched steel plate, such as NissanLeaf, BMWI3, TeslaModel3 all use 0.8mm thickness pressed steel plate. It can also use deep-drawn aluminum alloy plate for light weight development, which has obvious weight reduction compared with steel plate. Using 1.5~2.0mm thickness aluminum alloy upper cover instead of stamped steel plate can reduce weight by 20%~30%, but the upper cover aluminum alloy is greatly limited in stamping performance.

If the lower case has sufficient strength and rigidity, the upper cover can be lightweight by using lightweight reinforced plastic instead of metal, PP and PA can be used as the base material to enhance the plastic. The disadvantage of using plastic products for the upper cover of the battery case is its electromagnetic suitability and low melting point will cause a greater safety hazard.

PA is more hygroscopic than PP, and its cost is also higher than PP, so the PP glass fiber reinforced composite material with a thickness of 3mm is chosen to replace the 1mm thick pressed steel plate, and the weight reduction can reach 50%. The top cover of the battery box of the all-aluminum Chery Ant eq1 also adopts PP+LGF material to further reduce weight.
