Nylon PA is a plastic made of polyamide resins. This kind of resin can be prepared by polycondensation of diamine and dibasic acid, or by ring-opening polymerization of lactam formed after dehydration of amino acid. Different from PS, PE, PP, etc., PA does not soften gradually with the increase of heating temperature but softened in a narrow temperature range close to the melting point, the melting point is very obvious, melting point: 215-225℃. Once the temperature is reached, a flow occurs.

 

There are many varieties of PA, mainly PA6, PA66, PA610, PA11, PA12, PA1010, PA612, PA46, PA6T, PA9T, MXD-6 aromatic amines, etc. PA6, PA66 and PA12 are most commonly used.

 

Nylon engineering plastics appear as keratin, toughness, bright surface, white (or milky white) or yellowish, transparent, or translucent crystalline resin, it is easy to be painted any color. As an engineering plastic, nylon's molecular weight is generally 15-30 thousand. Their density is slightly greater than 1, with a density of 1.14-1.15g/cm3. Tensile strength: > 60.0 MPa. Elongation: > 30%. Bending strength: 90.0MPa. Notched impact strength: (kJ/m2) > 5.

 

The shrinkage rate of nylon is 1% ~ 2%. It is necessary to pay attention to the size change of moisture absorption after forming. The water absorption rate is 100% relative to moisture absorption saturation and can absorb 8%. The use temperature can be between -40 ~ 105℃. Melting point: 215 ~ 225℃. The mechanical properties of the appropriate wall thickness of 2 ~ 3.5mm. PA, such as tensile and compressive strength, changes with temperature and moisture absorption, so water is the plasticizer of PA.

 

After adding glass fiber, its tensile and compressive strength can be increased by about 2 times, and its temperature resistance is also improved accordingly. The wear resistance of PA itself is very high, so it can be operated continuously without lubrication. If you want to obtain a special lubrication effect, you can add sulfide in PA.

Process conditions of injection mold

 

Drying treatment:

Since PA6 absorbs water easily, special attention should be paid to drying before processing. If the material is supplied in waterproof packaging, the container should be kept airtight. If the humidity is greater than 0.2%, it is recommended to dry in hot air above 80 ° C for 16 hours. If the material has been exposed to air for more than 8 hours, it is recommended to vacuum dry it at 105℃ for more than 8 hours.

 

Melting temperature:

230~280℃, 250~280℃ for reinforced varieties.

 

Mold temperature:

80~90℃. Mold temperature significantly affects the crystallinity, which in turn affects the mechanical properties of plastic parts. Crystallinity is very important for structural parts, so the recommended mold temperature is 80~90℃.

For thin-walled, long-process plastic parts is also recommended to apply a higher mold temperature. Increasing the mold temperature can improve the strength and stiffness of plastic parts, but reduce their toughness.

If the wall thickness is greater than 3mm, it is recommended to use a low-temperature mold of 20 to 40℃. For glass fiber reinforced material mold temperature should be greater than 80℃.

 

Injection pressure:

Generally 750 to 1250 bar (depending on the material and product design).

 

Injection speed:

High speed (slightly lower for enhanced materials).

 

Runner and gate:

The location of the gate is very important due to the short solidification time of PA6. The gate aperture should not be less than 0.5*t (where t is the thickness of plastic parts).

 

If a hot runner is used, the gate size should be smaller than if a conventional runner is used, as the hot runner can help prevent premature solidification of the material. If a submerged gate is used, the minimum diameter of the gate shall be 0.75mm.

Major advantages of PA performance

 

1. High mechanical strength, good toughness, high tensile and compressive strength. The specific tensile strength is higher than metal, and the specific compressive strength is comparable to metal, but it is not as rigid as metal. The tensile strength is close to the yield strength, more than twice as high as ABS. 3. High softening point, heat resistance (such as nylon 46, etc., high crystallization nylon thermal deformation temperature is high, can be used at 150 degrees for a long time. After glass fiber reinforcement, the thermal deformation temperature of PA66 reaches more than 250 degrees.

 

4. Smooth surface, small friction coefficient, wear-resistant. As a moving mechanical component has self-lubrication, and low noise, the friction effect is not too high without lubricant use; If you really need to use lubricants to reduce friction or help heat dissipation, then water, oil, grease, and so on can be selected. As a result, it has a long service life as a transmission component.

 

5 corrosion resistance, very alkali, and most salts, also resistant to weak acid, oil, gasoline, aromatic compounds, and general solvents, aromatic compounds are inert, but not resistant to strong acids and oxidants. It can resist the erosion of gasoline, oil, fat, alcohol, and weak alkali and has a good anti-aging ability. Can be used as lubricating oil, fuel, and other packaging materials.

 

6. It has self-extinguishing, non-toxic, odorless, good weather resistance, inert to biological erosion, and good antibacterial and mildew resistance.

 

7. Excellent electrical performance. Good electrical insulation, nylon volume resistance is high, high breakdown voltage resistance, in a dry environment, can be used as power frequency insulation material, even in high humidity environment still has good electrical insulation.

 

8. Lightweight, easy to dye, easy to form. Because of low melting viscosity, it can flow quickly. Easy to fill the mold, high freezing point after filling mold, can be fixed quickly, so the forming cycle is short, high production efficiency.

① How to choose the fiber content of the product? Is the larger product suitable for higher fiber content material?

This is not absolute. The content of glass fiber is not more is better. The suitable content is just to meet the requirements of each product.
