LFT-G® injection molding is engineered from the ground up for long-fiber-reinforced thermoplastics (LFT), with purpose-built screw and barrel configurations. Our low-shear, gentle-conveying screw profile minimizes fiber breakage during melting, preserving the intact, continuous fiber network from our pultruded pellets through to the finished part. This standardized production platform delivers highly consistent performance across all our production facilities worldwide, with negligible batch-to-batch variation.

 

Low-shear melting not only protects critical fiber length but also ensures uniform fiber dispersion even in parts with complex geometries. PBT LGF50 delivers high structural rigidity and stable dimensions to maintain concentricity under high-speed rotation, while its outstanding electrical insulation and low moisture absorption provide long-term safety in humid household environments. FAQ

Q: Is PBT LGF50 flame-retardant on its own?

A: Not inherently. Unlike PPS, standard PBT LGF50 is not self-extinguishing. But it can be formulated with FR additives to meet V0 ratings. The long glass fiber actually helps maintain mechanical strength even after adding flame retardants - something short-fiber PBT GF30 struggles with.

 

Q: How is PBT LGF50 different from regular PBT GF30?

A: The difference is fiber length. GF30 fibers shorten to 0.2–0.5mm in the molded part, leading to warpage and crack risk. LGF50 maintains 1–3mm fibers, creating a reinforcing skeleton. That means higher impact, lower warpage, and improved creep resistance - without sacrificing chemical resistance.

 

Q: Can PBT LGF50 be recycled?

A: Yes, it's thermoplastic. Regrind can be reused, typically up to 20–30% without major property loss. The long fibers do get shortened during re‑processing, so recycled material won't match virgin performance. But it's still recyclable, unlike thermosets or many metal‑plastic hybrids.
