There are many factors affecting the performance of PA/LGF composites, including glass fiber content, diameter, length, strength, interfacial compatibility, additives, processing process, etc. LFT company prepared LGF-reinforced PA6 composites and found that the tensile and flexural properties of the composites increased significantly with the increase of LGF content (20-60 %); the notched impact strength showed the same trend at first, but decreased when the LGF content was higher than 50 %. Recent results showed that the tensile and impact strengths of PA66/SGF composites decreased by about 22% and 29%, respectively, as the fiber diameter increased from 11 μm to 15 μm when the short glass fiber (SGF) diameter was 11-15 μm.

Based on this, the smaller the fiber diameter and the larger the contact area between the fiber and the resin matrix at the same fiber content, the better the composite effect. A study comparing the properties of high-strength glass fiber and alkali-free plain glass fiber-reinforced PA6 composites showed that the tensile, bending, and impact properties of the latter composite were significantly higher than those of the former when the plain glass fiber content was 40 % and the high-strength glass fiber content was 30 %. This experiment also investigated the effect of the initial length of LGF on the mechanical properties of the composites, and it was found that both the residual length of glass fiber and impact strength increased linearly with the increase of the chopped grain length, and the tensile strength decreased first and then increased with the increase of the chopped grain length.
